The Randy Vase
A few years ago, Randy and I attended the Tampa Bay Convention
and one of our carnival friends said he had a vase he'd like
Randy to see. I think everyone knew of Randy's penchant for
vases. The vase was certainly unusual and no one knew the pattern,
the maker, or if indeed, it was really old carnival. It didn't
matter. Randy fell in love with this vase. So after the usual
back and forth money talk, we went home with the vase. Randy
looked in every book we had, page by page, looking for this
vase, but to no avail. Then, we were invited to have some of
our glass shown in the Bill Edwards/Mike Carwile Encyclopedia
of Carnival Glass, 8th Edition. We included a picture of this
unnamed vase, hoping that Bill or Mike might know what is was.
I was surprised to see the picture of this vase in their book,
but Randy was speechless to see that they named the vase "Randy".
He was so honored. Randy loved this carnival glass so much and
I am very pleased that he has a piece named after him, especially
a vase, his favorite.
